How Stuck Shows Up For An Artist

Indication Signs/ Symptoms

Hello Creative Peep,

Something that I have learned from working with over 8,500 artists is that we don't ALWAYS know when we are stuck. But I can tell you that when I am in a state of creative flow, everything just falls into place.

Creating is effortless.

I am inspired but not to the point of overwhelm.

I have a focus in my art.

Sharing and selling is a delight and not a chore.

I don't have to try too hard.

I am obsessed about the work that I am making, to the point that art just happens.

I jump out of bed in the morning because I am so excited to get back into the studio.

And I suppose that is what keeps me coming back to create more art.

If you have ever experienced moments of creative flow, you understand how addicting it can be!!!

But what does it look like when you are stuck. Because you might be stuck and not even know it.

Here is what I might look like:

  • Creative burnout or feeling overwhelmed by all the things.
  • Not knowing where to start or what to focus on in your work.
  • Jumping all over the place in your style, process and subject matter.
  • Not liking the art that you are making or enjoying the process of making it.
  • Procrastination in making art or sharing it.
  • Art is sitting in your shop and collecting dust.
  • Ready to give up on all of it and throw in the towel.
  • Stuck in your head and not able to take action.

Being stuck at any place in the creative cycle will keep you from making art or releasing it out into the world.

Do you struggle with any of these? Let me know by replying to this email.

Happy Painting!
