Replace Fear With Confidence

Through Repetition...

Hey Creative Peep!

I recently had this interaction with one of my students who is getting VERY close to completely her 100 Days of Imperfect Practice...

Tammy said this to me

Yes! Your '100 Days of Imperfect Practice' teaching replaced my fear with confidence to finally give this challenge a go. Thanks Wendy.

I loved this phrase so much...

Replace Fear with Confidence.

I just HAD to share it with all of you. It's 100% true.

Consistency breed confidence!

This is exactly what happens when you choose to consistently show up to your creative practice with the intention to get better at one particular thing.

When you make a decision to show up on a consistent basis in your practice, you WILL get better.

This is because of the rule of 100 hours...

The "rule of 100 hours" is a concept that suggests you can become proficient in a skill or subject by dedicating roughly 100 hours of focused practice to it over a year, which translates to around 18 minutes of practice per day, essentially placing you above the majority of people who don't consistently practice that skill at all; it emphasizes the power of small, consistent effort to achieve noticeable progress.

I know so many artists who give up after the 3rd or 4th try!

When you make the decision to be consistent AND you focus on micro skills, you WILL get better at that skill.

100 Days of Imperfect Practice is the perfect place to start if you need the support. (It's free by the way.)

Want to know what I will be working on in my informal practice this year?

I actually have been considering working on form and value right now. (See photo above for my very first piece.)

Last year, I was focused on shape.

I recommend focusing on one or two of the 7 elements of art for this practice: line, shape, color, form, value, texture or space.

Let me know what your focus is on this year!

Happy Painting!

Make Cringe-Worthy ART! Hello There Creative Peep, Blank Canvas Syndrome is when you have an irrational fear of starting a new painting and you feel like the blank canvas is staring you down. Been there? It's a real condition. But I just made up the term for it. If you struggle with getting started or you have a fear of making bad art, you are NOT ALONE in this. This is very common among artists. And for THIS reason, I often tell artists that it's so important to have an informal practice...

My Story Hello There Creative Peep, When do you know that it's time to make a creative shift? When you have exhausted everything that there is to say about something. This might show up through a feeling of not being satisfied with your work or just pure boredom. You lose the joy for the process of painting. You should be on fire to jump out of bed in the mornings to get back into your studio in order to paint! So what would make you excited to paint again? Maybe you need a change of scenery?...

Indication Signs/ Symptoms Hello Creative Peep, Something that I have learned from working with over 8,500 artists is that we don't ALWAYS know when we are stuck. But I can tell you that when I am in a state of creative flow, everything just falls into place. Creating is effortless. I am inspired but not to the point of overwhelm. I have a focus in my art. Sharing and selling is a delight and not a chore. I don't have to try too hard. I am obsessed about the work that I am making, to the...
