The Winning Formula to Sell!

It's So Simple!

Happy New Year Creative Peep!

I recently sold this piece on paper and I wasn't even REALLY trying.

I was simply using this painting as an example for my latest course, Styling Your Art 101.

I wanted to show all of my students exactly how they could style a paper painting instead of simply taking a square photo and posting it to their feed on Instagram.

There are so many out of the box creative ways to style a paper piece!!! If you are willing to give your customer a few ideas of how to style your art, then selling gets to be easy.

I want to share a few ideas from my course on how to style paper pieces... this is just three of the numerous creative, yet practical tips I share in this course.

One. Clipped inside of an open frame. Totally out of the box. Easy peasy. And lovely as well!

Two. On a clipboard leaned against a surface. Again, so easy and simple. It's not rocket science people!

Three. Layered paper collage on your wall. Just use tape. Again, this is so fun because it's like the collage is also a work of art. It's a little bit like creating an inspiration board.

So those are just a few of the creative ways that you can style your paper pieces outlined in my Styling Your Art 101 course.

But let's get back to the winning formula to sell your art.

Because it's NOT just about the photograph. It's also about storytelling.

A styled photograph + story telling = SOLD

So I shared the styled photos of my painting in my IG stories AND I talked about the meaning behind the painting.

I had 4 different inquiries about the painting from collectors wanting to buy the painting!!!

Guess what? The story doesn't even have to be complicated. I just wrote out a few lines about what butterflies mean to me. It wasn't rocket science.

The truth is that people NEED to make an emotional connection to purchase art.

I polled my audience on Instagram in my stories and I asked them if they used storytelling to sell their art.

Guess how many artists use storytelling to sell their art?

A whole 33% are storytelling!!!

WHAT?!?

That means that 67% of you are missing out on sales because you are not engaging your audience to allow them to make an emotional connection to your work.

If you want support with any of this, I highly recommend Styling Your Art 101.

One of my students who is taking the course said that the class is worth it, if only just for the Storytelling section of the class!

(By the way, this course will only be available at this price for a limited time period! The course will be going up to $97 soon...)

Make Cringe-Worthy ART! Hello There Creative Peep, Blank Canvas Syndrome is when you have an irrational fear of starting a new painting and you feel like the blank canvas is staring you down. Been there? It's a real condition. But I just made up the term for it. If you struggle with getting started or you have a fear of making bad art, you are NOT ALONE in this. This is very common among artists. And for THIS reason, I often tell artists that it's so important to have an informal practice...

My Story Hello There Creative Peep, When do you know that it's time to make a creative shift? When you have exhausted everything that there is to say about something. This might show up through a feeling of not being satisfied with your work or just pure boredom. You lose the joy for the process of painting. You should be on fire to jump out of bed in the mornings to get back into your studio in order to paint! So what would make you excited to paint again? Maybe you need a change of scenery?...

Indication Signs/ Symptoms Hello Creative Peep, Something that I have learned from working with over 8,500 artists is that we don't ALWAYS know when we are stuck. But I can tell you that when I am in a state of creative flow, everything just falls into place. Creating is effortless. I am inspired but not to the point of overwhelm. I have a focus in my art. Sharing and selling is a delight and not a chore. I don't have to try too hard. I am obsessed about the work that I am making, to the...
